Our History

Precision Tool Company’s origins began in 1935 when the local machining industry needed specialized cutting tools made from high-speed steels. William Reck Sr. watched the recent development of tungsten carbide in Germany, a material that was “Wie Diamant” (like diamond), but patents and licensing arrangements prevented its availability for public use.

But by 1940, Carboloy reached his hands through a customer for experimentation, and he found great success in brazed tip cutting tool construction.

In 1942, William Reck Sr. established Precision Tool Company to serve the growing demand for custom carbide-tipped cutting tools.  World War II dramatically increased the need for specialized carbide tooling, and the resulting boom in manufacturing facilitated the construction of a 1,500 sq ft building to house the then-flourishing business.

Through the following post-war depression years, PTC built a reputation for exceptional quality, service and value.

Today, we honor and build upon that tradition. We’ve since expanded into our current 20,000 sq ft facility in Muskegon, Michigan to accommodate for our expanding customer base.

We continue to look towards the future, accumulating many automation units that enable us to provide the fastest service, shortest lead times, and highest quality in the industry.
